2024 Main Title Emmys
One way to get better at cinematic motion and title design is to study the greats in prestige TV title design. But where do you start?
Well, one way is to see who’s getting nominated for an Emmy. This year’s nominees were spread across 3 design studios, each worth following and studying in their own right. Note their choices when it comes to style, methods, and how each chose to represent the themes of the show they are presenting.
3 Body Problem (Antibody)
Brought to you by the creative minds behind the True Detective and Westworld main titles, the 3 Body Problem main title sequence from the first episode combines the organic growth simulations with digital effects and a restricted color palette to deliver an intriguing and mind bending intro to the world created by the show.

Fallout (Antibody)
Each episode of the show has a different end credits sequence designed to open up the audience to the wider world of the Fallout universe. The persistent camera and seamless transitions are really a masterclass in scene setup and world design.

Lessons in Chemistry (Elastic)
The artists at Elastic have a way of lighting and rendering scenes that make them feel so real and tangible, and this title sequence is no exception! There are only 2 visible cuts across the entire run time, so the layout of this scene must be quite incredible.

Palm Royale (Imaginary Forces)
It’s hard to know what to expect next from the artists at Imaginary Forces; they are very good at both meeting and subverting my expectations from project to project. Plus, this title is one of the rare examples of the text being animated in accordance with the overall design and not simply overlayed on top.

Shōgun (Elastic) - WINNER
Designed in Elastic’s stylized and hyperrealistic signature 3D style, this title sequence takes the viewer on a poetic journey to 17th century Japan.

Silo (Antibody)
This title sequence harkens back to the stylistic choices these same creative directors made for The Peripheral. Again, we are dealing with a limited color palette and layers of elements interacting with one another and yet existing apart from one another, creating visual contrast.
