Drive Time In Space | Event Opener

Designed , edited, and scored by me.

Story by Alex Kunar and Matt Nunn.

This project was part of a continuing series for Forest Hill Church’s annual spring youth retreat. The character of “Drive Time” was created by Alex Kunar for a on-off social media post that turned into a continued branding choice and ongoing “inside joke” with the event’s attendees. Each year, “Drive Time” finds himself unable to reach the location of the retreat, in increasingly ridiculous circumstances. This year, “Drive Time” finds himself stuck on the moon.

Despite extreme budgetary constraints and some technical issues involving a shiny costume and our green screen, we pulled off an extremely well-received series of event openers and interstitial videos.

The title design and the opening music was heavily inspired by classic science fiction from the 50s and 60s.

All the CGI was comped in After Effects, using the Element 3D and Orb plugins from Video Copilot. The moon environments were generated in Cinema 4D and imported into Element 3D. The moon lander and truck models were purchased from CG Trader and retextured to fit our needs.
